The Digital Wallet for Expats and Digital Nomads in Paraguay

Two Women paying with Takenos

Paraguay has become one of the most popular destinations for expats and digital nomads in Latin America — low cost of living, territorial tax system, and no taxes on foreign-sourced income. The one friction point: moving money in and out efficiently.

Takenos gives you US banking details (routing number + account number) and a European IBAN. That means you can receive client payments, freelance income, or transfers from abroad exactly like a local US or European bank account — with no international wire fees on your end.

Receive money from anywhere

From the US (ACH) Any US bank, credit union, or payment app (Wise, PayPal, Venmo for business, etc.) can send you money using your Takenos routing number and account number. It processes as a domestic US transfer — no international fees, no SWIFT delays. Arrives in 1–3 business days.

From Europe (SEPA) Your Takenos IBAN works like any European bank account. Clients or contacts in Spain, Germany, France, or any SEPA country can send euros in minutes via SEPA Instant. Takenos converts the euros to USD at the current exchange rate automatically.

Withdraw to your local bank

When you need guaraníes for local expenses, you can withdraw your USD balance to your Paraguayan bank account directly from the app.

Pay without the digital services tax

Paraguay applies a 10% ISD (Impuesto a los Servicios Digitales) on digital service payments made with local cards. The Takecard is a Visa issued in the United States — when you pay with it, the transaction processes as a US card charge, not a local Paraguayan one. The ISD does not apply.

That means Netflix, Spotify, Adobe, ChatGPT Plus, Google One, AWS, and every other digital subscription you pay for internationally costs you the listed price — not listed price + 10%.

The Takecard Visa

The Takecard is a Visa card issued in the US, available as a virtual card (instant) or physical card (optional). Use it for:

  • Online subscriptions and SaaS tools without the 10% ISD

  • Booking flights, hotels, and accommodation internationally

  • In-person payments abroad via Apple Pay or Google Pay

  • Any merchant that accepts Visa worldwide

The virtual card is enough for everything online. The physical card adds convenience for in-person payments when you travel.

Earn yield on your USD balance

Your Takenos balance earns 3% annual yield automatically — no lock-up period, no fixed term. You can withdraw at any time without losing accumulated yield. To activate it, go to the "Rendimientos" section in the app.

Minimum balance for yield: $200.

Invest from the app

If you want to do more with your savings, Takenos lets you invest directly from the same balance:

  • S&P 500 ETFs, QQQ, Gold, and other assets

  • From $1, no commissions

  • In the same app, without opening a separate brokerage account

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Paraguayan bank account to use Takenos? No. You can receive international transfers, pay with the Takecard, and hold your balance entirely within Takenos. A local bank account is only needed if you want to withdraw guaraníes.

Does the Takecard work for in-person payments in Paraguay? Yes. The physical Takecard works at any Visa-accepting merchant. The virtual card works via Apple Pay or Google Pay where contactless is available.

What documents do I need to open an account? You can register with your passport. Check the current requirements in the app during signup.

Is there a fee for receiving international transfers? Takenos does not charge a reception fee for ACH or SEPA transfers. Your sender's bank may have its own outgoing transfer fee depending on their policy.

Can I use Takenos as my primary financial account in Paraguay? Yes. Many expats and nomads use it as their main USD account — receive income, pay subscriptions, book travel, invest, and withdraw locally when needed.
